The dashboard is meant to give you a snapshot of your data. However, dashboards often get bogged down when they contain reports that are updated too often, are too big, or contain too much data. You can avoid this by using the tips below to customize your dashboard:

  1. Do not set the dashboard report to use the embedded report viewer if possible. Instead, add the report as a Dashboard Part. The visual style will be the same as opening the report via the Reporting Dashboard or the View Reports page, but the report will load faster. (Consider setting the dashboard part to "cached" or turn off the "Refresh on Open" option in the report. The information will not update automatically and must be manually refreshed, but this will minimize the load time each time the dashboard is accessed.)

  2. Large reports are not recommended for use on the dashboard. If you need quick access to large reports, we recommend adding a link via a dashboard message.

  3. Use reports with auto prompts that pull information specifically for the person or group whose dashboard you are on.

  4. Streamline your report to pull as little information as possible while still being useful. (Some filter examples might include small date ranges, specific sites and programs, active only, or participant IDs.)

  5. Run your report in ETO Results before adding it to the dashboard to get a sense of the load time. .
